Global crude steel production fell 13% year-on-year to 137.1 million tons in April 2020

In April 2020, crude steel production in 64 countries included in the World Iron and Steel Association statistics was 137.1 million tons, down 13% from the same period last year. China’s crude steel production in April was 85 million tons, an increase of 0.2 percent over the same period last year; the EU region’s crude steel production in April was estimated to be 107.29 billion tons, down 22.9 percent from the same period last year. China’s crude steel production in April 2020 was 85 million tons, an increase of 0.2 percent over the same period last year; India’s crude steel production in April was 3.1 million tons, down 65.2 percent from the same period last year; and Japan’s crude steel production in April was 6.6 million tons, down 23.5 percent from the same period last year. The output of crude steel in the EU region in April 2020 is estimated to be 107.29 billion tons, down 22.9% from the same period last year. Crude steel production in the United States in April 2020 was 5 million tons, down 32.5 percent from a year earlier. The output of crude steel in the CIS region was estimated to be 6.554 million tons in April, down 22.6 percent from the same period last year; Ukraine’s output of crude steel in April 2020 was 1.4 million tons, down 30.9 percent from the same period last year. Brazil’s crude steel production in April 2020 was 1.8 million tons, down 39 percent from a year earlier. Turkey’s crude steel production in April 2020 was 2.2 million tons, down 26.3 percent from a year earlier
